CHADRON, Neb. -- October 27, 2017 -- Dominika Senkerikova notched eight kills with only one error, and
Aijahnae Springs added 10, but the visiting Colorado School of Mines Orediggers overcame a plucky performance by Chadron State College in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball match Friday evening in the Chicoine Center.
"We definitely competed tonight," said Head Coach
Riann Mullis. "Dom [Senkerikova] played phenomenally, and we got better as we went along. We have a few 'discipline' things we can work on, but we executed all the things after intermission that we wanted to. We got the ball to our middles, and they did a much better job of blocking too. We just played against a really good team."
The Eagles hung around for the first 25 points of set one, before dropping it 25-15. In the second, Mines took off early, going up 12-3 before the Eagles found their rhythm for good. Chadron State outplayed the No. 18 Orediggers for the remainder of the middle set, but ran out of chances and fell 25-16. The third frame again saw CSC hang in for a close half-set. Mines went up 16-11 to get some separation, eventually leading 22-16, but the Eagles rallied to close it to 23-20, finally succumbing 25-21 to the powerhouse Diggers, who stand atop the RMAC standings.
The visiting team outhit CSC .394 to .184, but the third stanza was nearly even, .378 to .364 for Mines.
Four Orediggers registered double-digit kills. Sisters Janice and Lindsey Jin, a junior and a freshman, each scored 11, while middles Maddie Behr and Abby Tiesman added 10 apiece with one error between them.
Mines' setter, Marina Hansen, distributed 45 assists for a magnificent average of 15 per set.
Chadron State falls to 8-14, and 5-8 in conference, while Mines goes to 19-3 overall and remains perfect in 13 RMAC matches.
CSC honors its seniors Saturday before playing Colorado Christian at 6 p.m. in its home finale.
