CHADRON, Neb. -- October 7, 2017 -- For the second consecutive night, Chadron State College rallied on its home court to defeat a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent from South Dakota, by a score of 3-1, dropping South Dakota School of Mines on Saturday evening at the Chicoine Center.

The Eagles once again overcame a slow start, getting behind 0-1 after the Hardrockers used finesse and timely blocking, but not necessarily power, to carve out a 25-20 win in the first set.

It's been an exciting weekend," said CSC Head Volleyball Coach Riann Mullis. "We talked about starting strong today, and we didn't do it, so we'll have that as a point of emphasis this week coming up. Last night our middles were the key point, and tonight Nae [Aijahnae Springs] and Gaby [Varela] really powered through the block, moved the ball well, and had a lot of aggression. They pulled their weight for sure, along with Madison Webb. We played better yesterday. We played cleaner. But we'll continue to work on having that energy and aggression every single set."

The energy picked up as the match continued, much like Friday night. Varela and Springs seem to gain power with every attack. The pair combined for 38 kills. Varela's 20 kills were her second-most in a Chadron State uniform, and Springs' 18 were her best individual effort.

Webb was phenomenal as well, delivering a double-double which was achieved after only three sets. She served up 49 assists and added 12 digs. 

Emily Bruce led a trio of Eagles to finish with double-digit digs, as her 18, Webb's 12, and 13 from Ashton Burditt helped CSC to its second-best performance in the stat category over four sets.

The Hardrockers' Mikella Reese was a leader for her team recording 10 kills and leading her team with 13 digs. Anna Breidt had 14 kills and only three errors, while Lily Lundquist was the blocking instigator with 4.5 total stops at the net credited to her name.

South Dakota Mines fell to 2-16 (0-8 RMAC) while Chadron State improved to 6-10 (3-5 RMAC). 

The Eagles will look to keep their newfound success going at Fort Lewis College on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a trip over Wolf Creek Pass to Adams State University on Saturday.
