Volleyball season ends on down note at Colorado Mines

GOLDEN, Colorado -- November 11, 2017 -- Chadron State College volleyball concluded its season at No. 16 Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, dropping straight sets to finish at 10-17 (7-11 RMAC). The Orediggers earned a share of the RMAC Championship with the win.

Colorado Mines outhit CSC .290 to .037 and won 25-15, 25-23, 25-10 to take the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament, beginning Tuesday.

The Eagles finished the season with double digit wins for the first time since 2007, and is tied for ninth in the league after being picked 11th in the preseason.

"There were good and bad aspects to the season," said CSC Head Coach Riann Mullis. "There has been progress made. We're happy with the progress both individually and as a program. We'll never be satisfied with where we stood with wins and losses, but we'll continue to build on top of it, every opportunity we get."

The Eagles noticeably limited their mistakes on service and serve receive down the stretch, and had some of their best defensive matches in October and November.

"Any progress or milestone we make is something to build on for next year," Mullis said of the 10-win season. "I'm proud of the girls. That's the standard now, going into next season. We have unfinished business going into the spring."

"We'll obviously miss Gaby [Varela] and Emily [Bruce] and we're grateful for everything they did. Emily was my first recruit to Chadron State. I appreciate her taking the chance on me and Chadron. Gaby was a great player to have here when I arrived, and just a great kid all around. She had a successful career. Those two helped set the tone for the future of the program. We'll have a strong senior class coming back, too, however."

The Eagles expect to return seven seniors including setter Madison Webb, the three-year starter at setter.
