CHADRON, Neb. – December 14, 2019 – The Chadron State College wrestling team, ranked No. 27 in NCAA Division II this week, won 9 of 10 matches on Saturday afternoon in a 45-3 dual victory over NJCAA No. 16 Cloud County Community College, of Kansas.
 
"The guys looked good," said CSC Head Wrestling Coach Brett Hunter. "They're finally starting to wrestle harder, like we've been preaching. It was a good team effort, and we were able to get some different guys in there, which is good to see."
 
The match began at 125, with NJCAA No. 2 Blayne Harris getting the better of CSC true freshman Tate Stoddard, by a 7-3 decision.
 
From there, the winners were all Eagles.
 
Senior 133-pounder Brandon Kile was up next for Chadron State, and he began a series of nine consecutive wins by pinning his opponent in the first period. He was one of five CSC wrestlers to earn pin, with four coming in the first period.
 
The others were Tate Allison at 165, Gavin Eason at 174, Wade French at 197, and Eli Hinojosa at 285.
 
Three in the lineup for CSC also earned a bonus point with major decisions.
 
Joseph Ritzen, at 141 pounds, recorded four takedowns and a set of four nearfall points, dispatching his opponent 13-3.
 
At 157, Chase Clasen earned his third win of the week by getting a quick takedown and two sets of two nearfall points. He tacked on another takedown to start 8-1, on the way to a 20-6 win.
 
Jay Westcott took his first dual win as an Eagles wrestler, at 184, with a 17-4 major. He scored four takedowns, a reversal, and one set of four nearfalls.
 
Finally, Caleb Haskell came just one point shy of a major decision of his own, winning 8-1.
 
The Eagles improved to 2-5 overall, while Cloud County fell to 1-2.
