Eagles hope to stay hot, travel to Fort Hays Tournament

CHADRON -- After having their best start since 2003, the Chadron State volleyball team hopes to stay hot as they travel to the Fort Hays State Fall Tournament this weekend.
 
The Eagles will face host Fort Hays at 11 a.m., and Newman University at 3:30 p.m., on Friday. Saturday, CSC faces Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Southern Arkansas University at 9:00 a.m., and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
 
In its home tournament last weekend, Chadron State defeated Fort Hays, South Dakota School of Mines and Montana State-Billings. Their lone defeat came to the hands of Sioux Falls.
 
Of this week's opponents, Northwestern Oklahoma holds the best winning percentage, after going 2-3 last week. They swept fellow RMAC partner New Mexico Highlands but lost in four sets to Fort Lewis.
 
Kaydee Honeycutt leads the Rangers at the net with 48 kills while hitting .145 on the season. Setter Kaitlyn Robinson has 124 assists.
 
Defensively, Libero Sydnee Miller has 88 digs for Northwestern Oklahoma and Jennifer Eubanks has recorded 12 total blocks in five matches.
 
The Rangers finished last season 18-14.
 
Southern Arkansas finished its opening weekend 1-2 at the Britkare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas. Their lone victory came against Tuskegee. Last season they were 8-21.
 
Seven Powers leads the Mullriders with 29 kills ons the season. Morgan Schuster has 89 assists in 10 sets, an average of 8.9 per set.
 
Lauren Smith has recorded 12 blocks to lead the team. Alana Perez and Schuster each have 28 and 22 digs, respectively.

The Jets of Newman University started the 2019 season 0-5. Trinity Conley leads the team with 61 kills and Reagan Roth has 107 assists for the Jets.

Mackenzie Anderson averages 4.36 digs per set, after recording 61 in 14 sets. 

Last season Newman finished 2-25.
 
Fort Hays finished last weekend 1-3 at the Chadron State tournament after defeating South Dakota School of Mines in five sets.
 
Freshman Delaney Humm of Lincoln leads the Tigers with 43 kills. Setter Katie Darnell has 86 assists on the season and Abbie Hayes leads the team with 53 digs. Morgan Christiansen has 13 blocks to pace Fort Hays.
