CHADRON, Neb. -- January 15, 2020 -- The Chadron State College wrestling team will be at home for three duals in the next few days, all of them against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents.
The foes will be New Mexico Highlands on Thursday at 6 p.m., Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Colorado School of Mines at noon on Sunday. All three matches will be in the Chicoine Center.
Thursday is community night. The public admission price is good at only one dollar, and Chadron youth wrestling will have a chance to perform at intermission, between the fifth and sixth matches. Saturday the team is dubbing "Black Out Night".
CSC Coach
Brett Hunter said the Eagles will have their hands full with each of the visitors. That includes Highlands, which is generally not known for its wrestling prowess, but has clout this year. Last weekend, the Cowboys bested two nationally ranked teams, Findlay of Ohio and Pembroke of North Carolina, during duals at Western Colorado in Gunnison.
Pueblo's lineup includes De'Andre Brumfield, the defending regional champion at 133 pounds, while Colorado Mines heavyweight Weston Hunt won that weight class at last year's regional showdown.
"Both of those teams are strong up and down the lineup," Hunter said. "Mines is believed to be the best team in the conference, particularly in a dual,"
Chadron State has two defending regional champions in its lineup. They are
Chase Clasen, the 149-pound winner last year and now a 157-pound entry, and
Wade French, the 197-pound champ a year ago and a contestant there again this year.
The Eagles' lineup will be pretty much at full strength for the duals. The only exception is junior
Caleb Haskell, a 149-pounder who suffered a knee injury last weekend while wrestling in San Francisco. Hunter said he'll probably miss a few weeks, but another junior,
Chance Karst, is now available at that weight after missing the fall semester while recovering from a knee problem.
