Thunderwolves use strong second half to defeat Eagles

PUEBLO, Colo. -- Janaiya Davis scored a career high 30 points and had 12 rebounds and the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves outscored CSC 50-29 in the second half to erase a 10-point halftime deficit, Satuday night, helping them defeat the Eagles, 78-67.
 
Chadron State drops to 4-16 overall and 2-9 in RMAC play, while the Thunderwolves improve to 4-12 overall and 3-8 in conference.
 
CSU-Pueblo opened the game on a 10-3 scoring run, before Taryn Foxen scored nine of her 24 points in the first quarter to lower the deficit to one at the end of the period.
 
With 7:46 remaining in the second period, Jori Peters hit a three to give CSC a two point lead, which they held until halftime. The Eagles outscored the Thunderwolves 21-10 in the period.
 
Chadron State's lead grew as large as 15 in the beginning of the second half, but the Thunderwolves responded with a 19-5 scoring run to drop the deficit to two heading into the final period.
 
Davis scored 17 of her 30 points in the final period, in which CSU-Pueblo outscored CSC 31-18.
 
CSU-Pueblo put four players in double figures. Davis led with 30, both Khiya Adams and Sydni Williams had 13 and Kansas Watts had 10 points.

Foxen led the Eagles with 24 points and Melisa Kadic had 13. Jori Peters added 12 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Morris was the team's leading rebounder with 10.

The Eagles were 22 of 56 (39.3 percent), including nine of 21 from long range. The Thunderwolves were 30 of 71 (42.3 percent), including six of 21 on threes. CSU-Pueblo was 12 of 16 at the free throw line while Chadron State was 14 of 21.

Chadron State was outrebounded by the hosts 43 to 38, but had 14 turnovers and the Thunderwolves' eight.
 
CSC returns to action next Friday, when they travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to face UCCS. The Mountain Lions fell to South Dakota Mines 74-58, Friday.
