CHADRON, Neb. – January 19, 2020 -- The visiting Colorado School of Mines Orediggers were in town Sunday afternoon, and remained undefeated and tied atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wrestling standings with a 27-9 win over Chadron State College. The Eagles close out the week 1-2, with all three matches in league competition.
"Some of our younger guys are really starting to wrestle well," said CSC Head Wrestling Coach
Brett Hunter. "With some of our veterans, we're starting to see how the long season can take a toll on them, but we know what they're capable of. Right now, we just need to find some consistency as we hit the home stretch."
Senior
Chase Clasen got the Eagles on the board at 157 pounds, with the team already down 18-0 due to two pins and two decisions. He scored a standard decision to make the score 18-3.
However by the time big men
Wade French, at 197, and
Mason Watt, at 285, were up, the dual had been decided. Each of the pair posted decisions in sudden victory overtime for the final margin.
Besides the two pins, which came at 125 pounds and 141, all other matches were decided by four points or fewer.
Chadron State will head to Kearney for more two regional duals this week with a 4-9 overall record. On Saturday morning they face Newman University and Fort Hays State University, before the pace of competition slows considerably throughout February.
