GOLDEN, Colo. -- January 25, 2020 -- The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team improved to 12-6 overall, and 9-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Saturday evening, on the strength of a 49-27 rebound advantage, outscoring Chadron State College 93-48 in Golden. 

CSC fell to 5-17 (3-10 RMAC) in the process, despite a second consecutive high scoring night by junior Taryn Foxen. The guard from Aurora, Colorado, was just 6 of 20 from the field but sank 8 of 11 free throws to get to 22 points.

Mines never trailed in the game, and it led by double digits for all but the first five minutes. The Orediggers' early points relied on their 6-of-7 start from beyond the three-point arc, but they continued to find buckets from long range throughout the game, finishing with a percentage of more than 58 percent.

The differential on the boards was much less pronounced in the final three quarters than in the first, but the Eagles were never able to match the fast start by the Orediggers and turn the tables.

CSM was led in scoring by Liz Holter, who dropped 11 of her 13 shots from the floor into the net, including three of four from three-point range, to finish with 26 points. Three other Orediggers - Denali Pinto, Ashley Steffeck, and Courtney Stanton - all finished in double figures.

For CSC, only Foxen eclipsed the five-point mark, however sophomore point guard Jori Peters stood out for her team with four assists. Another guard, sophomore Bailey Brooks, led the Eagles with five rebounds.

Chadron State is back at home for seven of its final nine games, with the two away contests scheduled for just a few minutes from campus, in South Dakota.
