KEARNEY, Neb. – January 25, 2020 – Led by senior 197-pounder Wade French's three wins by fall, the Chadron State College wrestling team won two of three contests at the Nebraska-Kearney Midwest Duals on Saturday morning.
 
Two of French's three pins came in the first period, with one match ending in the second.
 
The Eagles started the day against No. 26 Newman, giving up the first eight bouts before pins by 10th-ranked French and Mason Watt at heavyweight. The Jets were led by 133-pound No. 7 Tyler Lawley and 157-pound No. 10 Kameron Frame.
 
Then CSC tangled with No. 22-ranked Fort Hays State, rebounding to score the 25-22 upset. Both teams won five of the matchups in the dual, but the Eagles scored bonus points in all five of their wins, getting pins from French and Tate Stoddard at 125, a tech fall by 157-pound Chase Clasen, and major decisions by 133-pound Brandon Kile and 165-pound Tate Allison. For Stoddard, it was the first pin in an NCAA Division II dual match.
 
Finally, the Eagles handled a challenge by Northwest Kansas Technical College in a 45-6 CSC win. The junior college opponent forfeited three of its weight classes, but CSC also enjoyed pins by Stoddard, Allison, French, and Watt. The Mavericks earned only standard decisions at 174 and 184 pounds.
 
Chadron State improved to 6-10 in its duals season. The Eagles have only two more head-to-head matchups this season, as they travel to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, on Saturday, and host Adams State University for Senior Night on the following Thursday, February 6, at 6 p.m.
