COLORADO SPRINGS -- Friday, December 18 -- Chadron State women's basketball erased a 10-point deficit with three minutes remaining against UCCS Friday night, but late free throws by the Mountain Lions pushed them to a 73-68 victory in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Jori Peters sunk a three pointer to start a 9-0 Eagle scoring run, with 2:51 remaining in the final period.
Bailey Brooks and
Tatum Peterson combined to score the next six points of the game, lowering UCCS's lead to one with 46 seconds remaining.

After an Eagle missed free throw, the Mountain Lions made their next four attempts in the final 15 seconds from the charity stripe to seal the victory.

The loss drops CSC to 0-2 overall and in the conference. UCCS improves to 1-0.

Chadron State shot 32.9 percent (23-70) in the loss. The victors finished 23-62 (37.1 percent) from the field. After shooting 28 percent in the first half, CSC improved to 40 percent in the final two periods.

UCCS converted 10 of 25 attempts (40 percent) from three and were 77.3 percent (17-22) from the free throw line. The host was a perfect eight of eight from the charity stripe in the final period.

The Eagles finished seven of 19 from three and 15 of 25 from the free throw line, 36.8 percent and 60 percent, respectively.

Chadron State was outrebounded 48 to 37 in the loss.

23 of the Eagles 68 points were scored off 19 Mountain Lion turnovers. UCCS converted 10 Chadron State turnovers into 11 points.

Taryn Foxen led both teams with 20 points and eight assists. Brooks finished with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Peterson joined the duo in double-figures with 10 points.

Tatum Tellin led the Mountain Lions with 14 points. Abby Feickert and Maddie Golla were close behind with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles return to action after the holiday season, when they host Colorado School of Mines on January 3 at 4 p.m.
