CHADRON, Neb. -- October 6, 2021 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team (3-10, 1-5 RMAC) is set to host Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals New Mexico Highlands (6-10, 2-4 RMAC) and Adams State (7-8, 3-3 RMAC) this weekend. Both matches are slated to start at 6 p.m.
Friday's match against New Mexico Highlands has been dubbed "Pink Out Night for Awareness for Breast Cancer" by the team. The Eagles will be selling t-shirts and will give all proceeds to the Circle of Light Foundation, a non-profit organization, associated with Chadron Community Hospital & Health Services whose mission is to help cancer patients and their families in Box Butte, Dawes, Sheridan, Cherry, and Sioux Counties in Western Nebraska.
The New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls are coming off a 3-2 loss to CSU-Pueblo (12-3, 6-1 RMAC) and a 3-0 win over UCCS (4-10, 1-6) last weekend.
The Eagles will be looking for revenge against the Cowgirls, who won September's match 3-0. In that match, Highlands dominated in every statistical category except for blocks. The most important of which was their .270 hitting percentage, which resulted from 44 kills and 14 errors out of 111 total attempts.
One athlete the Eagles will have to prepare for is middle hitter Stacy Johnson. Since the start of the season, Johnson has emerged as one of the best hitters in the league. Her hitting percentage of .324 ranks her among the top five hitters in the RMAC.
Another Cowgirl to watch out for is middle hitter Angelina Oliver, who currently ties Johnson with 55 blocks. With a block rate of .96 per set, Oliver ranks among the league's top 15 best blockers.
Outside hitter Lisi Langi continues to lead Highlands with 172 kills and 199.5 points. She and setter Soleil Gandara-who leads all RMAC players with 595 assists-will be looking to put the pressure on the Eagles.
Following CSC's homecoming football game against CSU-Pueblo, the Eagles will once again be looking for revenge Saturday night against a team that defeated them 3-0 in September.
The Adams State Grizzlies are coming off a 3-2 home loss to UCCS and a 3-1 home loss to CSU-Pueblo last weekend. They are slated to visit #6 Colorado School of Mines the night before they travel to Chadron.
Hitters Sai Collins and Shannon Mulkey are the current kill leaders for the Grizzlies, with 121 and 118, respectively. Mulkey also leads the team in block solos (12), block assists (33) and total blocks (45). Her 12 block solos and her average blocks per set (.91) put her among the best blockers in the league.
