Wrestling to proceed Friday in closed gym

CHADRON, Neb. -- February 1, 2021 -- Due to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference winter sport policy, the Chadron State College Eagles wrestling team will be facing off in a dual on Friday evening with the visiting Western Colorado Mountaineers in front of an empty arena at the Chicoine Center.

The full list of protocol can be found at chadroneagles.com/winter2021.

CSC welcomes a restless WCU team which finally got in three duals in Kearney a week and a half ago. Prior to that, it hadn't wrestled since a trip to Grand Junction, Colorado, on December 10.

The Mountaineers are now 2-3 overall, with one win in their only RMAC dual with Colorado Mesa. Western downed Colorado Mesa, 25-24, on December 10.

Following the Mesa dual, the Mountaineer grapplers faced a bout with illness, coming out of the holiday break, and went six weeks without a competition.

Rejoining the season in Kearney, Western went 1-2 at the Midwest Duals, losing 25-21 to Newman, falling 32-12 to No. 3 Central Oklahoma, and defeating Fort Hays State 25-21.

The Mountaineers are led by 2019-20 All-American Patrick Allis at 133 pounds, No. 12-ranked Jason Hanenburg at 149, and heavyweight Sammy DeSeriere, a senior with a strong 4-1 start to the season.

Chadron State's lineup features 174-pound Rowdy Pfeil, a freshman with a No. 4 national ranking, senior returning national qualifier Tate Allison at 165, sophomore Eli Hinojosa who is off to a 4-2 start at 197 pounds, and junior Joe Ritzen, who owns a win over No. 12 Tyler Lawley of Newman.

The full CSC lineup is yet to be determined.

A full lineup of extra matches, between various Eagles and Mountaineers not in the starting lineup, will take place on a second mat. Matches will be streamed at chadronstate.tv.

The action is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
