LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Feb. 27 – The Chadron State College women's basketball team fell to the Colorado Christian Cougars 70-51 on Saturday night. It will conclude the 2021 season with a record of 0-13. CCU, meanwhile, ends its season at 5-13.
In their win against the Eagles, the Cougars had four players score in the double digits, with McClain Walker leading at 15, Olivia Christy at 14, Sam Nunez at 12, and Brookelyn Hurlbut at 10.
The Eagles, on the other hand, only had two players that broke 10 –
Ashayla Powers with 14 and
Olivia Waufle at 10. Powers was 2-2 on free throws and Waufle also had 66.7% with three-pointers, going 2-3. Waufle played 36 of 40 minutes.
CCU made 10 of 24 three-pointers while CSC only managed three of nine.
The Eagles scored 14 second chance points, but it proved to be insufficient against the Cougars. The home team, in turn, had 27 rebounds, resulting in 10 fastbreak points while also managing 14 steals.
Bailey Brooks of CSC and Lourdes Gonzalez of CCU each had nine rebounds on the night, tying for the game's best total.
The game against the Cougars on Saturday closed out the season for the Eagles in a very unusual season.
