Eagles host Metro State and Colorado Christian

CHADRON, Neb. – October 5,2022 – The Chadron State College volleyball team will look to rebound from last weekend as it hosts #2 Metro State (15-1, 8-0 RMAC) on Friday, October 7th, and Colorado Christian (10-7, 5-3 RMAC) Saturday October 8th, at the Chicoine Center.

The Eagles are coming off two matches where they were swept by New Mexico Highlands and Adams State, which dropped their RMAC record 5-3.

The CSC team is coming off one of its worst offensive performances against New Mexico Highlands with a hitting percentage of .042. The team hit .228 against Adams State last Saturday.

Metro State has hit .287 on the season which leads the RMAC, but coming off two straight matches where they hit over.400. They are led by Mikayla McClinton who is hitting .375 on the season, with Delaney Eckhardt is not too far behind with a .357 hitting percentage. The Roadrunners have six players hitting over .300 this season.

Rylee Hladky is second in the RMAC in kills with 186, which helps put Metro fifth in the RMAC with 733 kills as a team.

The Eagles defense will be tested, but sophomore Aiyana Fujiyama is still top five in the RMAC in blocks with 68. Freshman Bella Adams has added 46 blocks herself.

The offense will rely on Adams more on the offensive attack, as she still leads the team with a .311 hitting percentage.

Junior Lexi Hurtado and sophomore Mayson Fago will also help the offensive attack as they both have over 100 kills.

The Roadrunners have allowed a .115 hitting percentage against them so far this season.

The Eagles are still looking for their first win against Metro State since 2004.

On Saturday night, which the team has designated a Pink Out Night, the Eagles will face the Cougars from Colorado Christian.

The Cougars are coming off a weekend where they split their matches. They hit .291 in a win against Black Hills, and .237 in a loss against South Dakota Mines. On the season they have been hitting .240, which is fifth in the RMAC. They are led by Lilly Woods who has been hitting .338 on the season, which puts her third in the RMAC.

They also rank fifth in the RMAC for total kills, where Libby Goodman leads the team and the league with 234.

The Eagles have faced top hitters before, but they've had good answers against them so far this season.

With Fujiyama at the net, the back half is led by junior Rylee Greiman who has 165 digs on the season. This puts her second on the team behind senior libero Abby Schaefer with 184, which is 14th in the RMAC.

While Schaefer is out with an injury, freshman Kiera Alfred has picked up the void from her absence. Freshman Kiley West, senior Breshawna Kelly, Fago, and Greiman all have over 100 digs.

The Eagles rank second in the RMAC for digs with 992.

CSC is looking to snap an eight match losing streak against the Cougars this weekend.
