Eagles fall in four

CHADRON, Neb. – The CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves defeated the Chadron State College volleyball team in four sets Thursday night in the Chicoine Center, 25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 25-21.
 
The Eagles fall to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Thunderwolves improve to 7-10 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
 
CSC hit .205 in the loss compared to their opponents .331.
 
In set one, the Eagles led 17-14 before a CSU-Pueblo 4-0 scoring run to take a one-point lead. CSC tied the match at 18 but never regained the lead in the set.
 
Chadron State held a 2-0 lead in set two before the Thunderwolves scored the next six points to gain the lead, which they never lost. The set included a 10-0 scoring run for the guests.
 
The Eagles gained an early lead in set three and held it until CSU-Pueblo tied the match at 20 and gained the lead at 22-21.  Chadron State scored the final four points of the set for their lone victory.
 
A back and forth scoring battle occurred at the beginning of set four before the THunderwolves extended their lead to 17-9 and eventually winning the set.
 
Bella Adams and Mayson Fago both finished in double-digit kills for the Eagles. Adams, a sophomore from Pueblo, hit a match high .500 in the defeat.
 
CSC's setter, Kendyl Kirkwood, a junior from Fleming, Colorado, finished with 34 assists.
 
Defensively, Kirkwood and Alondra Hernandez, a junior from Provo, Utah, both finished with 13 digs. Lexi Hurtado, a graduate student from Aurora, Colorado, had 11.
 
Aiyana Fujiyama, a junior from Wahiawa, Hawaii, had a team high three total blocks.
 
The Eagles are back in action Saturday when they host Adams State at 6 p.m. Dig Pink shirts in support of the local Circle of Light non-profit organization.
