CSC teams at home Saturday, Sunday afternoons

CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College basketball teams will be playing double-headers at home on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16 and 17 starting at 2 p.m. with the women's games.  The unusual schedule is necessary because winter commencement will take place in the Chicoine Center on Friday.
             
The Eagles will play the Regis Rangers on Saturday and the Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Sunday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.        
             
Chadron State split its games with Colorado Christian on Tuesday night.  The visiting Cougars dominated the women's game 79-46, while the Eagles' men won 80-73 while making 11 three-pointers.  The CSC women are now 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.  The men are 5-4 and 3-1. 
             
The Regis women have a 7-3 season record and are 2-2 in the RMAC. Four of their players are averaging in double figures, led by former Wayne State Wildcat Josey Ryan, a 5-9 grad student who is averaging 15 points a game.  Ryan last played for the Wildcats in 2020-21, and three years later is using her final year of eligibility.
             
The Regis men will come to Chadron with a 5-4 season record and are 2-2 in the conference.  Their top gun so far has been 6-4 sophomore Chase Mayo Harmon, who averaging 16.2 points and is the Rangers' leading 3-point shooter by going 20-49 from behind the arc.
             
The Colorado Springs women are 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference, losing only to Colorado Mesa 58-53. A 6-foot junior, Maison White, is the team's leading scorer at 14 points a game. Three more Lady Mountain Lions are averaging at least nine points.
             
The Colorado Springs men are 5-5 for the season and 1-4 in the RMAC. Xavier Martinez, a 5-11 freshman, is the Mountain Lions' top scorer at 14.8 points a game.  Jesse Iweze, a 6-6 junior, is next on the team's scoring chart at 10.2 points a game while also averaging 7.6 rebounds.
           
Junior forward Shay Powers leads the Chadron State women by shooting 56.8% from the field and averaging 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds.
             
Senior guard Bryce Latimer paces the CSC men in scoring at 22.8 points a game. Senior forward Josh Robinson is averaging 15.6 points and 8.7 rebounds.
             
This weekend's games will conclude the 2023 portion of the schedule for the CSC women. The men will host York College in a non-conference game on Dec. 30.  The Eagles will resume their conference schedules by playing at Metro State in Denver on Jan. 6.
