Guards lead CSC men’s team to 79-51 victory

CHADRON, Neb. --- With guards Jalen Patterson and Bryce Latimer combining for 38 points and 12 assists, the Chadron State College men's basketball rolled to a 79-51 victory over Western Colorado in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game played in Chadron on Saturday night.
             
The Eagles led by just 34-29 at halftime, but shot 59.4% (19-32) from the field in the second half while outscoring the Mountaineers 45-22. Chadron State also outrebounded the visitors 33-23 for the game.  
             
Patterson was nine of 12 from the field, including three of five from 3-point range, and made his only free throw for 22 points.  The 6-foot-1 juniors also handed out five assists and was the game's leading rebounder with seven.  
             
Latimer made half of his 14 field goal shots and both of his free throws for 16 points and was credited with seven assists.  The 5-10 senior, who entered the game averaging nearly 24 points, scored 12 of his points Saturday night in the second half. 
             
Dalton Peterson added 10 points and Martin Poznanovic had eight to help the Eagles improve their season record to 4-4 and improve their conference record to 2-1.
             
Western Colorado's only double-figure scorer was Avery Remboa with 13 points. Spencer Wright was second on the Mountaineers' scoring list with 8 points.  The Mountaineers, who had 20 turnovers, compared the CSC's nine, are now 3-5 in the overall and 1-2 in the RMAC.
             
The Chadron State women also rallied late to down the Western women 55-49 in the first game of the double-header Saturday afternoon.  Both teams will be at home again Tuesday night to meet Colorado Christian beginning at 5:30.
