CSC Volleyball opens season today

CHADRON, Neb. -- SEPTEMBER 1, 2023 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team opens their non-conference schedule today when they play hosts to York University (NE) and Minnesota State-Moorhead, Friday in the Chicoine Center.
 
The Eagles are hosting a tournament Friday and Saturday. South Dakota Mines is the fourth school involved.
 
York, who is an NAIA school, has started their season with a record of 1-5. The Panthers won their season opener but have dropped four straight since.
 
Liberty Baker is the Panthers team leader with 42 kills on the season, an average of 2.47 per set. Mariah Janda does the setting duties and has 111 through the five matches.
 
Defensively, Cassie Richardson has a team high 73 digs while Brooke Halterman has 10 blocks.
 
MSU-Moorhead will join the Eagles in opening their season tomorrow.
 
Last season, the Dragons finished with a record of 8-20. At CSC's 2022 tournament, MSU-Moorhead defeated Chadron State in three sets.
 
Bridget Witzmann led the Dragons in 2022 with 310 kills, an average of 3.13 per set. Emily Skalicky also returns after leading the team with 687 assists, an average of 6.94 a set.
 
Three different players had over 250 digs and two had over 55 blocks a season ago.
 
The Eagles match against York begins at noon before playing the Dragons at 6 p.m.
