Line’s buzzer beater lifts Eagles

CHADRON – Liberty Line's offensive put-back with 0.3 seconds remaining proved to be the difference in Chadron State College's 62-61 victory over visiting Westminster Saturday evening at the Chicoine Center.

Line, who finished the contest as one of three Eagles who scored in double figures, grabbed an Olivia Waufle attempt and scooped the game-winner in. Line's layup capped a back and forth affair between the Eagles (5-9, 3-6 RMAC) and Griffins (2-15, 0-9). Neither team led by more than eight points and the lead switched sides four times. Westminster owned a 36-32 advantage after two quarters but the Eagles outscored the visitors 30-25 in the final two stanzas.

CSC's comeback was buoyed by its strong shooting at free throw line, hitting seven of nine attempts, while Westminster hit four of eight.

Ashayla Powers, who was honored before the game for eclipsing 1,000 career points, led the Eagles with 20 points and nine rebounds. Line added 11, Megan Counts chipped in 10 points, and Waufle scored eight points, while adding seven rebounds, and six assists.

Westminster had just seven players suited for the contest and three scored in double figures. Teulia Nawahine finished with 22 points and Maunayia Harrigfeld had a double double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Eagles will travel to Fort Lewis College and Adams State University next weekend for two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests.
