Eagles end season with victory

CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College softball team found themselves victorious in their final game of the season on Friday, winning game two of the day's double header 8-0 after falling 9-5 in game one.
 
The victory ends Chadron State's season with a record of 12-38 overall and 12-28 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
 
Four CSC softball seniors and four Black Hills State softball seniors were honored between the two games.
 
In the Eagles game two 8-0 victory in six innings, one of those seniors began the scoring in the bottom of the second inning.
 
Jessie Henchenski, a senior from Fort Collins, Colorado, hit a solo homer to center field to begin the inning, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the third, CSC added three more runs.
 
After Jazlyn Arvizo singled to center field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, Lauren Zimmerman launched a homer to center, making the score 3-0.
 
Ashland Baca extended CSC's lead to 4-0 with a solo homer as the next batter.
 
The Eagles added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, making the score 7-0.
 
Arvizo once again led off the inning with a single to center field. After one out was recorded, Zimmerman hit her second two run homer of the game to add her fourth RBI.
 
With two outs, another senior was able to hit a home run in their final collegiate game. This time, Mackenzi Kroll, a senior from Brighton, Colorado, homered to left center, making the score 7-0.
 
The homer in game two was Kroll's third hit outside of the park during the day, after hitting two homers in game one. She finishes her career as CSC's career home run record holder, with 46.
 
After starting pitcher Brooklyn Levin forced the Yellow Jackets to go three up, three down in the top of the sixth inning, the Eagles were able to walk off the game in the bottom of the inning.
 
With one out, Kenzi Garner launched Chadron State's sixth homer of the game to left field, ending the game 8-0 in the Eagle's favor.
 
Levin earned her fourth collegiate victory in the six-inning showing. The freshman allowed only four hits, struck out four batters and walked one.
 
The Eagles finished the game with eight runs on 11 hits.
 
In game one, Black Hills State scored four runs in the first and fifth inning on way to a 9-5 victory.
 
After BHSU scored four runs in the first, CSC was able to add one run in the bottom of the second when Kroll hit her first homer of the day.
 
Chadron State made the score 4-2 in the second when a Baca single scored Arvizo from third.
 
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 8-2 in the fifth inning when they batted through their lineup.
 
Kroll's second homer of the day occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
A Zimmerman single began the inning for Chadron State. Devyn Thornton entered the game as Zimmerman's pinch runner and after stealing second, she was brought home by Kroll's bomb.
 
The guests added one more run with an RBI single in the final inning.
 
Kroll added her fourth RBI in the bottom of the seventh but CSC's comeback was unable to advance any further, ending the game 9-5 in BHSU's favor.

Chadron State had five runs on ten hits with four errors in the loss.
