CANYON, Texas – Four Eagles scored in double figures and CSC shot 42 percent from the field, but West Texas A&M hit 21 threes and enjoyed a big advantage on the glass as the Buffaloes defeated the Eagles 118-83 on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second win over Chadron State in as many nights for West Texas A&M, a team receiving votes in the NABC Coaches Poll who improved to 4-0 on the season. Chadron State, which opened its season this weekend, is now 0-2 after the two decisions against the Buffaloes.
Junior guard
Jadon Cool led CSC with 17 points on 6 of 16 shooting, making three three-pointers to tie for the team lead with
Ethan Russell.
Isaiah Randolph, the Eagles' leading scorer in game one, poured in an efficient 16 points, only missing one shot the entire game as Randolph went 4 of 5 from the floor and 8 of 8 from the line.
Zach Smith, CSC's only returning letterwinner from 2024-25, added 14 points, the majority of which came at the stripe with the guard making 10 of 14 foul shots. Lincoln, Nebraska freshman
Konnor Kralik added 11 points to get in double figures for the first time in his young collegiate career.
Led by Smith and Randolph, the Eagles did excel at getting to the line, but didn't convert many of the extra opportunities. CSC shot 75 percent (24-32) from the stripe, while West Texas A&M only attempted 22 foul shots but made 19 of them (86.4 percent).
The Buffaloes put some distance between themselves and Chadron State from beyond the arc. While the Eagles made 9 of 25 attempts, WTA&M let 42 three-point attempts fly and sunk half of them. West Texas also outrebounded Chadron State 49-34, including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds.
The 118 pounds are the most allowed by Chadron State in the
Chris Francis era. Only one time in Francis's first season (2024-25) did the Eagles allow more than the 98 points scored by the Buffaloes on Friday night.
The hosts had six double-figure scorers, led by perennial leading scorer Fontaine Williams with 21 points. Camden Cowgill followed with 20. Williams and Zach Brown each hit four three-pointers.
After Cool's 16 field goal attempts, Kralik had the second-most shots on the day for the Eagles, shooting 5 of 8 from the field and burying his only three-pointer.
Jovan Jovanovic, CSC's second-leading scorer on Friday, was just 1 of 7 from the field, including 0 of 5 from deep.
