CHADRON, Neb. — The Chadron State College Men's Wrestling team will jump into the 2026-27 season at Dakota Wesleyan University, Saturday, Nov. 7, during the DWU Open in Mitchell, S.D.
This will be the third year the Eagles are competing in the tournament, with last year's team earning nine placers in their weight classes, including two champions.
Chadron State could compete against athletes from as many as 33 other teams at Saturday's open. The Eagles will have 27 athletes getting ready to travel, including five fifth-year athletes and three seniors on the team.
One of the fifth-year athletes, Logan Berger, will lead the team into the tournament after receiving a preseason No. 12 national ranking at 165 pounds from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Berger competed last year at 174, with a season record of 13-11.
Sophomore Brooks Loosvelt placed second at the DWU Open last season at 184 pounds as a true freshman. He finished his first collegiate season with a 10-3 record.
Also returning from last season will be sophomore Aidan Callahan, who took a fourth-place finish at last season's open at 149 pounds. He finished the season with a 16-10 record.
A freshman to look out for will be Maddux Lounsbury at 157 pounds. Coming from Green River, Wyoming, Lounsbury achieved National High School Coaches Association All-American honors, finishing his high school career with three state placings and a state championship.
With 12 freshmen and other new additions on the roster this year, including sophomore Aiden Russell from Concordia Moorhead College and senior Caleb Schwerdtfeger from Southeast CC, every Eagle wrestler is looking to perform well at these early season opens to solidify their spot in the lineup.
Following this week's opening event, the Eagles will wrestle at home in their first dual against Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
