MANHEIM, Pa. – Six Chadron State College women's wrestlers earned a significant academic honor with a mention on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)'s Women's Scholar All-American awards.
Chadron State's honorees were redshirt freshman
Cosette Desrosiers, sophomore
Sicily Frates, junior
Maddox Gehlhausen, junior Neveah Leonard, senior
Brianna Vollendroff and senior
Shania Wear.
Wear, also a three-time Summit Award winner as the competitor with the top GPA at the RMAC Championships, has now taken home the NWCA honor for the third consecutive season. Frates, Gehlhausen and Vollendroff now have two career NWCA accolades, while Desrosiers and Leonard each have earned their first career honors in their first seasons being eligible for CSC.
A total of 540 student-athletes representing 92 institutions were recognized for their academic success in the classroom while competing throughout the season.
"These student-athletes have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence both on the mat and in the classroom," NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said. "We commend their dedication and the example they set for the sport."
Student-athletes must compete in 10 matches and have above a 3.50 GPA. They can also qualify for the honor with a 3.25 GPA if they qualify for nationals or a 3.00 GPA if they are an All-American.
