Track Preparing for RMAC Championships

CHADRON, Neb. – Postseason track and field begins as Chadron State will head to the ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado for the RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this Friday through Sunday.

The Eagle men's team placed fifth at these RMAC championships last year while the women's team was 12th. This year, the Eagles will have 60 total entries - 32 on the men's side and 28 on the women's side, including athletes who are qualified for multiple events.

Ticket Info
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has partnered with Hudl Tickets to manage ticketing for all championship events during the 2025-26 season. Fans will receive purchased tickets via email with a QR code. When you arrive at the gates, scan the QR code on your phone for a frictionless entry.

Ticket links are available on the right-hand side of the page at this link.

Day passes are $16 for adults and $11 for kids (6-17), seniors (65+) and military members. A multi-day pass that provides entry for all three days of the tournament is also available, costing $37 for adults and $27 for kids/seniors/military.

Meet Schedule
The meet will get underway with multis on Friday, as the first five events of the men's decathlon begin at 9:45 a.m. while the first four events of the women's heptathlon start at 10 a.m. Multis will continue throughout Saturday.

The rest of the meet will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with the men's and women's 10,000-meter runs. Field events tip off with the shot put, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Sunday's field event schedule begins at 10 a.m., with the men's triple jump (featuring CSC's Chayton Bynes as the No. 1 qualifier) set to begin the docket. Track events start at 11 a.m. with the 4x100-meter relay finals. The 4x400 relays will be the final events of the meet and are slated for 2:20 and 2:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Looking Back
The Eagles last competed on Wednesday, April 15 at the Bauer Open hosted by South Dakota Mines, which was the final chance for Eagle athletes to make the RMAC Tournament field.

RECAP: Bauer Open

Several Eagles took advantage, including Joshua St. Jean, who shot up into the RMAC's top 10 in the 100-meter dash with a meet-winning and career-best time of 10.64 seconds.

Paige Kehmeier, who has competed in the 400/800 this season, ran the 400 hurdles for the first time and instantly qualified for the RMAC Tournament in that event. Shelby Ekwall (shot put), Kyndall Carnahan (steeplechase), Laynie Goertz (400), Kailey Klein (high jump) and Tavion Leatherdale (discus) were among Chadron State athletes to win events.

Top Guns
Chadron State will enter the tournament with four individuals ranked in the top three in their respective events.

Chayton Bynes will be the conference's No. 1 qualifier in the triple jump. After an indoor season in which Bynes won the triple jump and finished in the long jump at the RMAC meet, the Chadron native will compete in the same two events this weekend.

Bynes's triple jump season-best of 15.73 meters is a full half-meter ahead of the next-highest mark. Bynes currently ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division II.

Tavion Leatherdale will be a contender in the discus as the senior holds a season-best mark of 48.09 meters, good for second among entered competitors at the RMAC meet. Leatherdale has won the discus at three meets this season, including each of his past two competitions at the Mines Midweek and Multi plus the Bauer Open.

Courtney Williams will have his sights set on the decathlon crown this weekend. Williams's event-winning mark of 6,506 points at the Mines Midweek and Multi is the third-best score in the conference behind a pair of athletes from UCCS.
The top-ranked women's competitor entering the meet is Shelby Ekwall, who is No. 3 in the conference in the shot put with her season-best of 13.56 meters (44-2.5), which won Chadron State's home meet in March. Teammate Ashlyn Tapio (No. 5 at 13.18m/43-3) joins Ekwall in the top five.
