CHADRON, Neb. – On a day where five CSC seniors played their final home games, Colorado Mesa spoiled the party with two decisive wins over the Eagles by scores of 23-3 and 12-2, both in five innings, on Saturday in Chadron.
Madison Sebbo and
Tiffani Mein both homered for the Eagles (6-43, 6-34 RMAC) but Colorado Mesa (24-24, 23-17 RMAC) hit nine homers total across the two victories. Despite a 13-10 Eagles victory in game two on Friday, Saturday's two wins give CMU a 3-1 series win on the weekend.
Colorado Mesa remained dialed in offensively as none of CSC's three pitchers truly had an answer for the Maverick lineup.
Belle Akins (3.2 IP) and
Brynn Trujillo (5 IP) each gave up six earned runs in their outings while
McKenna Sides allowed 11 earned runs. The CSC defense did the pitching staff no favors with five errors in the first game and three in the second.
The highlight of the afternoon was the performance of Sebbo, who homered in her first at-bat of her Senior Day for what was both her first college hit, RBI and home run. Sebbo added a single in game two and, combined with a pair of walks, reached base all four times she came to the plate during Saturday's games.
The first game initially seemed to be a back-and-forth, high-scoring slugfest like Friday's contests. CMU scored three in the first and one in the second, but the Eagles had answers both times.
In the first, the Eagles staged a two-out rally when
Elizabeth Thorngren and
Tiffani Mein worked walks sandwiched around a
Brogan Allen single to load the bases.
Brianna Cordray, fresh off a six-RBI day on Friday, added to her total with a base hit that scored one, although
Sydney Lowery struck out looking on a full count to end the inning.
In the second,
Katelynn Czerpak reached on an error before Sebbo crushed a 1-1 pitch to deep center field for a two-run bomb.
A senior from Rapid City, Sebbo had been limited to two games in three seasons prior to 2026 due to a series of injuries that were initially diagnosed to be career-ending. Sebbo, who had appeared in 10 games as a pinch-hitter or designated player this year, recorded her first hit in 16 career at-bats by leaving the yard. Sebbo's two walks Saturday gave her five on the year.
What seemed to be a close, 4-3 ballgame through three innings turned ugly. Colorado Mesa scored nine runs in the fourth inning and 10 runs in the fifth inning, opening up the margin from one run to 20 in just six outs. CMU shortstop Khloe Kubitschek had 10 RBI in the game with two doubles and two home runs, setting a Colorado Mesa single-game record.
The Mavericks continued to roll offensively, scoring four runs apiece in the first, second and fifth innings to seal their second run-rule win by a 12-2 score. Chadron State tallied their runs leading off the second inning when Allen singled and Mein homered to left, her fourth of the season.
CSC seniors other than Sebbo produced offensively during their home finale.
Elizabeth Thorngren went 3-for-5 across the doubleheader with a walk and a run scored.
Brogan Allen went 2-for-5 with a run scored while
Katelynn Czerpak also scored a run.
The Eagles will conclude their 2026 season on the road against Adams State (10-40, 9-31 RMAC) next weekend. The Eagles can pass the Grizzlies and finish 11
th in the RMAC standings with a sweep.
