2015: Smith's punting yardage total of 2,884 in 2015 was a new CSC single-season record. In addition, his 70 punts were the third most in a season to date and his 41.2 yard average ranked fifth ... Of his 70 punts, nearly half (34) landed inside the 20-yard-line ... Season-long punt of 75 yards versus New Mexico Highlands
2014: Averaged just under 40 yards a punt for the Eagles … Had 57 punts for 2,261 yards … Helped flip the field of play for CSC with 10 punts for 50 plus yards including a 58 yard punt … Almost half of his punts were within the opponent’s 20 yard line.
2013: Joined the team in the spring and developed into a solid punter … He had 41 punts for 1,621 yards and averaged just under 40 yards a punt … Seventeen of his punts landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
Before CSC: Attended WNCC for a year and played baseball for a semester.
High School: An all-around athlete at Gering High, where he earned all-conference in both football and basketball and was an excellent American Legion baseball player … As a senior in 2011, Smith caught 29 passes for 380 yards, took part in 45 tackles and intercepted five passes … He also was the Bulldogs’ punter and was fifth in Class B in punting average … As a high school basketball player, Smith averaged 17.4 points and made 86 of 102 free throws for 84.3 percent his senior year in 2011-12 … He was named all-region … He was also named the Star-Herald’s Baseball Player of the Year in 2012.
