Biography
2019--Opened the 2019 schedule by throwing the 20-pound weight 64-8 ½ at the Colorado Mines Alumni Classic for a career-best to win the event by more than 16 feet. She also had a career-best of 41-5 ¾ in the shot put.
2018--Became one of the Eagles’ leaders despite being just a sophomore. Had a best of 60-5 ¼ while placing second in the weight throw at the RMAC Indoor Meet, qualified for nationals and earned Second-Team All-American there with a mark of 59-10 ¼, good for 11th place. She also threw the shot 40-9 during the indoor season. Outdoors, Hallsted was the runner-up to senior teammate Ashlyn Hanson in the hammer throw at the RMAC Meet with a mark of 179-0 and then hit 183-8 at the Concordia Last Chance Meet to qualify for nationals. The latter mark put her fourth on the Eagles’ all-time hammer list. She also placed sixth in the shot at with a career-best 41-6 ½ and fifth in the discus at 132-5 at the conference meet. Earlier in the season while in Texas, she sailed the discus 157-5 to qualify for nationals.
2017—Had indoor bests of 37-8 ¾ in the shot put and 53-4 ½ in the weight throw and outdoor bests of 40-11 ½ in the shot and 130-3 in the discus and 166-9 in the hammer.
Before Chadron State: She wrapped up her high school career in May 2016 by placing second at the Wyoming State Meet in the Class 4A shot put at 39-11 ¾ and third in the discus at 121-10. Both of her parents, Todd and Angie (Anderson) Hallsted, graduated from Chadron State. Her father was an all-state football player and state champion wrestler at Greybull, Wyo., High School and concluded his wrestling career at CSC in 1992 by going 21-9, winning the 190-pound championship at the NAIA Area Tournament and placing second at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. Unfortunately, Todd died of an apparent heart attack in August 2016, just before Ashton enrolled at CSC. Ashton, great-grandfather, Joe Chasteen, 93, of Cheyenne is one of her biggest boosters and attends some of her meets. He played football and basketball at Chadron State in 1945 and ’46 after serving in World War II.
Personal: She has made either the President’s List (all A’s) or the Dean’s List (3.5 or above) each of the five semesters she has attended CSC. A human biology major.
