Biography
2013: Really emerged in the weights…Placed third in the shot put at the RMAC Indoor Meet with a season-best 51-6 ½…Also hit 51-2 ¾ in the weight throw…At the conference’s outdoor meet, he was seventh in three events—shot (48-6), discus (149-10) and hammer throw (153-1)…All these marks were season bests except the shot, which he threw 49-9 ¼ at Azusa Pacific.
2012: Had indoor bests of 46-1 in the shot and 45-5 ¾ in the weight, but spent limited time with the track and field team outdoors because he was practicing with the football team…Last season the football coaches gave him the green light to concentrate much more on the throws.
High School: A first-team all-class all-state linebacker his senior year in 2010 after the Aurora Huskies won their second straight Class B state championship…He also placed fourth in the shot (52-2 ½) and sixth in the discus (154-3) at the Nebraska State Meet as a junior and was third in the shot (53-10) as a senior.
Personal: Became a defensive line stalwart for the Eagles’ 8-3 football team in the fall of 2013…Participated in 34 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for losses and 5.5 sacks…Son of Pat and Renae McCarthy, now of Omaha…Born Jan. 25, 1993…An accounting major with a 3.844 GPA.
