2021: DeAndre Barthwell joined the Eagles football coaching staff in the fall of 2020 as a coaching assistant, after graduating from CSC with a degree in sports and recreation management.
Since then, his primary assignment has been defensive backs. That unit in 2020 produced 33 tackles, four interceptions, eight additional pass breakups, and a fumble recovery in just four games.
While a student-athlete at Chadron State, Barthwell held down a starting cornerback spot since he was a true freshman in 2015, playing in 39 games with 35 starts. His statistics include eight career interceptions and 116 total tackles, of which nearly 85 percent were solo. During his career, he was referred to by coaches as the “best corner in the RMAC”.
In 2018, Barthwell received a nod as All-Nebraska Division II honorable mention, and as a senior in 2019 he was an All-RMAC selection as well as the team's Defensive Co-MVP and All-Nebraska Division II First Team.
