Biography

2011: Started all 11 games in the defensive backfield … Made starts at both cornerback and safety … Had his most productive campaign since joining the team, recording 45 total tackles … He also had a team-high three interceptions that he returned for a total of 123 yards … He returned two of his three picks for touchdowns, which ties him for the third most interceptions returned for touchdowns in school history … His first touchdown was a 55-yard scamper against Angelo State and he followed that with a season-best 68-yard return for a TD against New Mexico Highlands … He also returned a fumble nine yards … Named to the RMAC All-Conference Third Team … Battled a couple of nagging injuries during the track and field season but still managed to finish in the top five in both the 200 and 400 meters at the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships … Has six career interceptions.
2010: Was a prominent figure in 10 games, starting the season finale at Mesa State … In the season-opener against Mary he had an interception and swatted away another two passes … He also added an interception to seal the verdict in the waning moments of Chadron State’s win over nationally-ranked Colorado Mines … Had 14 tackles and deflected six passes … He’s also a stellar track athlete, winning the RMAC championship in the 400 meters outdoors and the 200 meters indoors … He also helped Chadron State’s team win the 400-meter relay  and became an All-American in that event in the spring of 2011.
2009: Played in three games, starting against Adams State … Unfortunately, in that game he injured his knee for the second time in his career and missed the remainder of the season … Up to that point he had five tackles, including one for a loss, and made an interception … He bounced back quicker than was anticipated and had an excellent outdoor track and field season, culminating in a conference championship in the 400 meters, which he ran in 47.92 seconds … He also helped the Eagles get a second-place finish in the 1,600 relay.
2008: The CSC coaches had plans to play him as a true freshman, however, he injured his knee and redshirted.
High School: A three-year starter at a variety of positions at Apple Valley High School … He was named all-league as a defensive back for posting over 55 tackles and three interceptions as a senior … Played quarterback his junior year and threw for over 1,000 yards to be named first-team all-league … His senior year, he started at quarterback, but moved to running back and wide receiver … Ran for over 100 yards his final two games of the season and scored one TD and caught another … He was a standout track athlete, running the 400 meters in 48.7 seconds, the 200 in 22.2, and he went over 44 feet in the triple jump.
Personal: Came to CSC so he could compete in both football and track and field … Son of Phil and Corina Rivera ... Majoring in criminal justice ... Has three siblings: Melody, David and Luis … Born Dec. 28.
