2020: Taylor Shaffer finished his first year as a coaching assistant for Chadron State College in 2019-20. For the first time in five years, the Eagles had multiple players named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honorable mention list, when Brian Rodriguez-Flores and Colby Jackson received the honor.
Shaffer brings college head coaching experience into his role as an Eagles assistant coach, having coached the women's team at Otero Junior College for two seasons, from 2016 to 2018. He left Otero to accept a coaching opportunity with the United States Basketball Academy (USBA), a national training facility in Xian, China.
Prior to 2016 he was an assistant coach at Otero for one season, after playing collegiately at Otero and Colorado Mesa where he earned degrees.
“Taylor was a team leader as a captain on a national qualifying team as a collegiate player," said former CSC Head Men's Basketball Coach Houston Reed, of Shaffer. "He’s continued to excel as a leader as a basketball coach and has gained great experience in the field at an early age. Taylor will bring toughness, high expectations and detailed orientated organization to our program. We are excited to have him help lead our young people.”
