2022: Luke Karamitros begins his fourth season as the head cross country coach at Chadron State College this fall, overseeing both the men's and women's programs as well as distance athletes for indoor and outdoor track and field.
Karamitros is characterized by his high energy and passion to propel athletes to pursue their team objectives in both academic and athletic excellence. As a result, the roster has brown from 13 student-athletes to 34 under his recruiting.
He comes to Chadron by way of Adams State University, where he worked for three years as an assistant cross country coach. There he was responsible for enforcing training plans and competition strategies for cross country student-athletes as well as track and field distance runners. Karamitros also helped Adams with recruiting, and he had side responsibilites such as travel planning, working camps, and strength training.
As a Grizzly, Karamitros worked closely with a program which won two NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Championships and one women's championship.
Before his arrival in Alamosa, Colorado, Karamitros competed at Southwest Baptist University in Missouri, where his team twice qualified for the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships. As a student-athlete, he competed in both cross country and track & field and received the SBU Cross Country/Track & Field Leadership Award in both 2014 and 2015. Karamitros also earned 2015 all-conference honorable mention honors as well as 2014 USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Region.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Karamitros moved to Shenyang, China at the age of eight, returned to the U.S. at age 17 and graduated from high school in Atlantic, Iowa.
He holds a bachelor's degree in sports management from SBU, and completed a master's in applied sports psychology in December 2019.
