2021 - Northrup enters his 5th season in 2021 with the Eagles Track and Field program. Northrup became the Head Track and Field Coach at Chadron State College on August 16, 2017, returning to his alma-mater, where he graduated in 2010.
In four seasons at the helm, the Eagles have earned 12 All-American awards, 15 Individual/Relay RMAC Championships, and six school records. Highlights include Isaac Grimes 2019 Indoor NCAA title in Long Jump and Runner-up finish in Triple Jump, and Naishaun Jernigan’s 3rd Place NCAA Outdoor Championship finish in Long Jump in 2021.

Prior to his return to CSC, Northrup worked at Ashland University in Ohio from 2014-2017. While there, a total of 6 school records in the jumps and multi’s fell. Some of the top athlete’s Northrup worked with while at Ashland include; Jennifer Foster who cleared 5’11 ¼” and was twice the NCAA Championship runner-up in the women’s high jump and AU record holder. Myles Pringle set the AU Men’s high jump top mark at 7’1 ¾” in 2017. Jennifer Bjelac soared to 6.00m in the women’s long jump to set the AU record in 2015.
As a student-athlete at Chadron State from 2006-2010 Northrup earned All-American honors in the high jump by clearing 2.05m (6’8 ¾”) at the NCAA Indoor Meet in 2007. He had a top mark of 2.09m (6’10 ¼”) during his career as an Eagle. Northrup graduated Cum Laude in 2010 with a degree in secondary education. Post-collegiately, Northrup continued to compete and cleared 2.20m (7’2 ½”) in the high jump. That qualified him for several USATF Championship Meets including the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Northrup is a native of Hot Springs, SD where he was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. He earned All-Conference honors in both football and basketball, and was a South Dakota State Champion in the high jump in 2005. He is married to Megan (Bren) Northrup of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and they have a son, Ryker James, who was born in April of 2020. They reside in Chadron.
