Chadron State College Athletics

2015—Improved his marks to 53-4 ¼ in the shot and 56-7 ½ in the weight throw indoors and was third in both at the conference meet.  His outdoor bests were 52-8 ¼ in the shot, 165-4 in the hammer and 162-10 ¼ in the discus.  He was fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively, in those events at the conference meet.
2014—Had bests of 49-10 in the shot put and 51-10 in the weight throw, placing fifth and eighth, respectively, at the RMAC Indoor Meet.  Outdoors, he hit 49-11 ¾ in the shot, 161-5 in the hammer and 152-1 in the discus and was fourth in the shot at the RMAC Outdoor Meet.
2013—Placed third in the shot at the RMAC Indoor Meet with a season-best 51-6 ½. Hit 51-2 ¾ in the weight throw. At the conference’s outdoor meet, he was seventh in three events—shot (48-6), discus (149-10) and hammer throw (153-1).  All were career-bests except the shot, which he heaved 49-9 ¼ at Azusa Pacific in California in April.  He was a starter in the defensive line in the fall of 2013, participating in 34 tackles, including 5.5 quarterback sacks for 37 negative yards, but after that season he decided to concentrate on throwing for the track and field team and did not play football again.
2012—Came to Chadron State primarily to play football after earning Class B first-team all-state honors at linebacker and helping the Aurora Huskies win their second straight Class B state championship when he was a senior in the fall of 2010. As a true freshman at CSC in the fall of 2011, he redshirted in football, but threw for the track and field team during the indoor season and had bests of 46-1 ½ in the shot put and 45-5 ¾ in the weight throw. He did not compete outdoors while concentrating on spring football.  That’s why he has a year of eligibility remaining outdoors this (2016) spring.
Before Chadron State: As a high school junior, he was fourth in the shot (52-2 ½) and sixth in the discus (154-3) at the Nebraska State Meet.  As a senior, he was third at state in the shot at 53-10. 
Personal:  Graduated from CSC last spring magna cum laude (requiring a GPA of at least 3.75) while majoring in accounting. He is doing graduate work this school year.  His parents, Pat and Renae McCarthy, now live in Omaha.
