Gwerder, a Chadron native, was hired as the head coach of the CSC Spirit program in April 2024. In that role, she leads both the cheer and dance programs which represent and support the Eagles.
Prior to CSC, Gwerder accumulated over eight years of experience teaching studio dance and recreational cheer. She also coached cheer and dance at Cheyenne East High School (Wyo.) and competitive and sideline cheer at Stevens High School in Rapid City, S.D. She coached Stevens to a Spirit of Six award in 2023 and also set a school-record high score in competitive cheer.Â
Gwerder was also a high school English teacher for seven years. She owns a bachelor's degree in English Education from Valley City State University and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chadron State.Â
Gwerder also works in the athletic department's administrative offices, assisting with marketing and other promotional initiatives.
