The Chadron State men's basketball team will be facing its longest collegiate rival on Saturday when it hosts Black Hills State. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
Black Hills was the first collegiate rival for the Chadron State men's basketball program in 1921-22, after the Eagles had defeated Chadron High 24-17 and lost to Alliance High 17-15. In its third game, Chadron State beat Black Hills 31-15. Later in the season, CSC won again, 19-18.
The next time they met was in 1924-25, when the Yellow Jackets won 22-16.
The Eagles hold a 117-66 edge in the all-time series, but Black Hills won last year's game in Spearfish 85-70 and also prevailed 76-67 in Chadron in 2010-11. Since 2000-01, the Eagles have only a 6-5 advantage.
So far this season, the Eagles are 1-11 and the Yellow Jackets are 3-9.
CSC's only victory was a 71-62 decision over Regis on Dec. 15 in Denver. The next night, Black Hills defeated the Rangers 69-67.
Black Hills also has beaten Dickinson State 95-80 and Colorado Christian 72-68.
The Yellow Jackets' top scorer is 6-foot-5 junior Tanner Adler, who is averaging 16.8 points. Joey Mitchell, a 6-1 sophomore, is next at 11.9 a game.
Austin Maag, a 6-6 sophomore, is averaging 11.1 points and another sophomore, Brady Bisgaard, who nailed six of seven 3-pointers during the Jackets' victory over CSC last year, is averaging 10.9 points a game.
