CHADRON – Both Chadron State College basketball teams will be playing at home Tuesday night against the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers. The women's game will start at 5:30 and the men's game at 7:30.
Â
The CSC men are off to a 2-0 start with victories over Dickinson State and Grace University. The CSC women are still seeking their first win after losing to Missouri Western, Wayne State and Montana State-Billings.
Â
The CSC women made the game at Billings close, making the final score 59-55 by outscoring the Yellowjackets 14-6 in the final seven minutes.
Â
The South Dakota Mines women, who have lost their first four games, have a new coach this year. He is Ryan Larsen, formerly an assistant at the University of South Dakota. He replaced Barb Felderman, who coached the Lady Hardrockers for 32 years before stepping down last spring.
Â
The Mines women lost to Minot State 75-49 and to the University of Mary 90-74 during a trip to North Dakota to open the season and were beaten last week at home by Northern State 51-35 and Wayne State 77-47.
Â
Â
Wayne State had downed Chadron State 78-59 the previous night before traveling on to Rapid City.
Â
The Hardrockers' men are 2-2. They lost at Minot State 63-57 and Mary 81-71 to open the season, but defeated Montana State-Billings 72-65 and the University of Sioux Falls 82-74 at home last week.
Â
A pair of 6-foot-8 post players were among the Mines' leaders in the home victories. Michael Dietz scored 16 points in each game and Andrew Rebol tallied 18 and 12. Senior guards Lance Kilburn and Lucas Nolan each scored 14 points against Sioux Falls.
Â
It was the Hardrockers' first win over Sioux Falls in 10 years.
Â
This will be the first time the women's teams from CSC and Mines have played one another since 2009-10. The men's teams have not met the past two years.
