Colorado Christian uses free throws to down CSC women

Box Score CHADRON — Colorado Christian made all 15 of its free throws in the second half and finished 22 of 23 overall from the line Sunday afternoon while coming from behind to edge Chadron State 62-58 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game.

Chadron State led 26-18 at halftime, but the Cougars took a 37-35 lead midway through the second half and never trailed again.

Colorado Christian eventually built a pair of 11-point leads.  The Eagles fought back, cutting the difference to just 56-55 with 1:45 to play. But Colorado Christian center Gillian Foster, the game's leading scorer with 17 points, scored on a driving layup just as the shot clock was expiring with 33 seconds remaining on the game clock. The Cougars then made four free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the verdict.

Besides Foster's 17 points, a pair of guards, Taylor Torres and Jessica Murdoch, each scored 15 points for the Cougars, now 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC. They combined to go 13 of 14 from the free throw line with Torres making nine of 10.

Senior forward Kattie Ranta led CSC with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, giving her seven double-doubles in eight games this winter. Kayli Rageth added 12 points and Dallas Shaw 10 to go with nine rebounds.

The Cougars, who made just five of 30 field goal attempts in the first half, were 19-62 (30.6 percent) overall from the field. CSC made 21-48 (36.2 percent) field goal attempts and was just 11-20 from the free throw line.

The Eagles, now 1-7 and 1-3, will be back home this coming weekend to play Regis and Metro State.
