Chadron State Falls at UCCS

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UC-Colorado Springs shot just a 32 percent from the field, but sank 14 foul shots in the second half to clench a 65-60 victory over Chadron State College Saturday at the Gallogly Events Center.
 
UC-Colorado Springs had two players in double figures. Abby Kirchoff charted 18 points and Jeri Pikul chalked up12. With the win, the Mountain Lions improve to 7-10 overall and 6-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
Despite an early 15-10 Eagle lead, the Mountain Lions went on a 9-0 run to propel them to a 27-24 lead at the half. UC-Colorado Spring carried out their momentum in the second half leading by as much as 11 points, but Chadron did not let up easy.
 
With 51 seconds on the clock, the Eagles trailed by just two points at 60-58, but a Chadron turnover followed by two fouls allowed the Mountain Lions to go on a 5-2 run to seal the game.
 
The Eagles shot a 38 percent from the field and allowed 18 turnovers.
 
Kattie Ranta recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds, Kate Simonton added 12 points, and Kayli Rageth chipped in 8.
 
Chadron State will be on the road again next Friday and Saturday as they match up against Metro State and Regis University.
