DENVER – Behind a balanced hitting attack, the No. 25-ranked Metro State University-Denver swept Chadron State College 25-21, 25-13 and 25-15
Friday in Denver.
In the first set the Eagles rattled the Roadrunners, holding an offensive team to a hitting percentage under .100. Chadron State kept the set close behind good defense and the help of Metro State committing 12 errors.
Metro State put on the points quickly following the first set as four women finished with at least six kills. Setter Brandi Torr, who had six digs, ended the night with 44 assists. Michaela Smith was the match leader with 11 kills, while teammates Abbie Noland had nine and Kylee Hoagland, who hit a match-high .571, had eight kills.
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference kills leader, Lauren Quijano, also had six kills.
Defensively, Metro State didn't allow much. The Roadrunners limited Chadron State to a hitting percentage under .100 and finished with five total team blocks. Torr led the way with four blocks, while in the back Savannah Garcia had a match-high 21 digs.
Erika Roybal was the main attacker for CSC, closing out the match with a team-high nine kills. Setter
Shelby Gardner distributed the ball well for Chadron State, ending with 18 assists to five different teammates.
Also for Chadron State,
Hanna Flaming and
Alia Brennan had three and two blocks respectively, and
Alyssa Bauer finished with 11 digs.
The Eagles look to rebound quickly
Saturday when they take on the No. 11-ranked Colorado School of Mines at
7 p.m. in Golden, Colorado.
