SPEARFISH, S.D – Black Hills State University had 14 blocks en route to its 25-20-, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of Chadron State College Tuesday night in Spearfish.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-13 overall and 5-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Eagles, who will host Colorado Christian Friday at 6 p.m., return home with a record of 3-16 and 2-9 in the conference.
Chadron State kept close to Black Hills State the entire match behind
Erika Roybal, who hit .250 on 12 kills. Up front,
Lelalelei Nomura, who added eight kills, tried to keep CSC in the match with five blocks, but the Eagles could not overcome attacking errors and the front three of the Yellow Jackets.
Setter
Shelby Gardner finished with 23 set assists and mixed her passes up well, allowing five different teammates to put down at least four kills.
Also for Chadron State,
Alexis Farris ended with nine kills and
Hanna Flaming had four blocks.
Black Hills State's Shelby Mayer had eight total blocks on the night, five of which were solo. Overall the Yellow Jackets out-blocked the Eagles 14 to 6, keeping the Eagles to a .120 hitting percentage.
The defense was on for the Yellow Jackets. Six different players recorded blocks and Lacy Stevens had 20 digs.
BHSU had two athletes with double digit kills, led by Hamlin with 12 and Meghan Sipe, who also had 13 digs, with 10. Black Hills State hit .275 as a team, distributed by setter Brynn Eckhardt's match-high 26 assists. Eckhardt also had 14 digs.
