CHADRON –Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference leader Colorado School of Mines earned a 25-22, 25-15, 25-19 over Chadron State College Friday evening. The Eagles host No. 20 MSU-Denver Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
Chadron State (3-21, 2-12 RMAC) played sixth-ranked Colorado School of Mines (21-2, 14-1 RMAC) well. The Eagles and Orediggers traded leads eight times in the match. The first set featured 16 ties.
Colorado Mines' Alanna Winfield and Megan Peterson both had 12 kills to lead their team. Peterson committed only one error en route to a .458 hitting percentage. All-American setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood, who had two blocks and 17 digs, finished the night with 36 assists.
Also for the Orediggers, Sarah Pekarek had three service aces.
For the Eagles,
Erika Roybal had a team-high 10 kills and
Lelalelei Nomura added in seven. Setter
Justine Ackie, who had two kills, had 19 assists.
Defensively,
Ana Kasljevic had a match-high three block assists, while libero
Alyssa Bauer led all competitors with 21 digs. The Eagles had four competitors with two or more block assists, giving them five total team blocks compared to the Oredigger's four.
