Men's Basketball Con Marshall

First game in Chicoine Events Center is Friday night

Chadron State will initiate the new Chicoine Events Center on Friday night when the men's basketball team hosts the Presentation College Saints. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

CSC coach Brent Bargen said fans "will be astounded" by the Eagles' new court.

"It's a phenomenal place," he added.

Those attending the game should enter through the southwest door of the new structure. Fans will not be able to access the Chicoine Center by way of Armstrong Gymnasium. Considerable vehicle parking is available south and southwest of the new facility.  Once those spots are taken, the closest parking will be behind Don Beebe Stadium, but still only a block or so from the new center.

Fans may also park north of Armstrong and walk around the east side of the old gym to the Chicoine Center.

Chadron State College's Chapter of Blue Key Honor Fraternity will be hosting a canned food drive prior to Friday's game. All patrons are requested to bring one or more canned food items to be donated by Blue Key to a local food pantry.

Reserved seating in chairs with backs on them may be purchased. CSC officials say there are "no bad seats" in the center, but those with "chair backs" will be the most comfortable.

The opening game will be the first between the men's teams from Chadron State and Presentation College, a NAIA member located at Aberdeen, South Dakota.

The Saints, who were 15-13 last year, opened their season last weekend by winning both games at a classic they hosted. They edged Trinity Bible College from Ellendale, North Dakota, 70-66 in the first game and topped Mount Marty College from Yankton, South Dakota, 82-73 the next night.

The leading scorer against Trinity was Cameron Israel, a 6-3 junior, with 20 points. He tallied 15 points in the second game, while Louis Cox, a 5-9 junior, and Jeremy Comer, a 6-2 guard, each scored 16.

Both Israel and Cox were three of five from 3-point range against Mount Marty.

The Presentation roster also includes Devin Crear, another junior guard, who was on the CSC roster last year, but did not play. Crear added 10 points for the Saints in the win over Mount Marty.

Bargen said his team got off to a good start during the exhibition game at Northern Colorado on Friday night, but didn't shoot well after that and two starters got in early foul trouble.  The Division I Bears won 95-56.

The coach said he's still excited about the Eagles' potential.

The CSC women's team will play its home opener in the Chicoine Center at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Montana State-Billings.
