Football CSC Sports Information

Get to Know: 7 Football Seniors

Every year senior football players fill out information sheets to be published in the final game program. Unfortunately, this year not all the responses were collected prior to the deadline. So, the sports information office decided to publish the responses online.

Quarterback from Gering, Neb., Patrick O'Boyle:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
Playing alongside my brother for the last three years, making it to the playoffs in 2012, and getting to play in Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
It has been the best experience of my entire life. The atmosphere here is amazing and I have made a ton of lifelong friends that I am blessed to have. I didn't choose The Rock, The Rock chose me.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
I am going to miss the camaraderie with my teammates and being able to play alongside my brother.
Q: Future plans?
I would like to get a job teaching middle school math or K-12 Physical Education/Health. I would also like to get a job coaching football and/or baseball.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Enjoy all the details. These are what will get you the furthest in life. Never settle for less than perfect. Be obsessed with being great.
 
Center from Harrison, Neb., Sam Parker:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
Beating Colorado School of Mines in 2012 to become eligible for playoffs.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
It's been an honor to attend CSC and represent it on the field. I am thankful for my coaches and the time they have invested in me. I am also thankful for the CSC faculty for having helped me attain my degree and open up future opportunities for me.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
I will definitely miss the friendships I have made with my teammates and coaches. Sports have an interesting way of creating a bond between teammates that transfers off the field.
Q: Future plans?
I plan to work this spring in Chadron and start pursuing my Master's degree in the fall.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Appreciate the opportunities you have been given. They are a blessing and should never be overlooked.
 
Safety from San Diego, Calif., Jojo Phillips:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
All the rookie shows that I have seen over the years.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
New and Exciting. It has been a great learning experience and a new great family.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
Everything. All the memories of camp and the road trips. Meeting and making new friends. Just being able to battle and celebrate with my brothers.
Q: Future plans?
Pursue football and become a personal trainer.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Give everything you have, you don't know how short it really is.
 
Offensive Lineman from Otis, Colo., Lance Pickett:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
Playing in Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
It has been one hell of a ride consisting of ups and downs over the past four and a half years, but I am glad that I stuck with it.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
The stories that get shared in the locker room on Sundays. Also the brotherhood that is CSC football.
Q: Future plans?
Graduate in December and stay in Chadron to work for a few years.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Work hard, and when an opportunity presents itself don't wait for it to come to you, you have to go out and take it.
 
Defensive Lineman from Chadron, Neb., Zach Sandstrom:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
Walking to coach O'Boyle's house after the overtime win against Mesa my freshman year. Making playoffs my sophomore year. Playing in Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
There were some pros and cons but the pros always outweighed the cons. Everyone in Chadron supported me throughout my career and I cannot thank everyone enough. My family, friends, and boys made my experience the best possible.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
I am going to miss my teammates, road trips, and Saturday afternoons. I have built a lot of great friendships that I will cherish forever. I will miss the feeling of looking for a win on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings when we found one.
Q: Future plans?
Get married to the love of my life Kaelie Jelden, get a teaching job, coach football, and start a family.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Don't ever forget how much you love the game. Sometimes it is easy to forget why you are pushing yourself so hard. Just look at your teammates around you and remember how much you love the game.
 
Inside Receiver from Lincoln, Neb., Austen Stephens:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
Beating Mines in a blizzard in 2012.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
The most fun and the toughest five years of my life.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
Having an entire team of friends and celebrating our wins together.
Q: Future plans?
I plan to graduate this December and then begin job hunting.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Make sure you have fun and enjoy every opportunity.
 
Wide Receiver from Savannah, Ga., Antonio Thompson:
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a football player at CSC?
Playing West Texas A&M my junior year in AT&T Stadium.
Q: Sum up your experience at Chadron State.
My experience at Chadron State was definitely a humbling experience that matured me into the young man that I am today.
Q: What are you going to miss about the team?
I am just going to miss being around my coaches and teammates and all the good times we shared together, whether we were on the road or just day to day.
Q: Future plans?
Pursue a master's degree in Sports Administration.
Q: Any advice for your teammates?
Cherish every moment as a Chadron State football player because it goes by fast! Finish strong Eags!
