SIOUX FALLS, S.D., - Redshirt freshman Allison Koehn scored 22 points and three teammates also scored in double figures Friday night as Augustana College defeated Chadron State 85-59 in the season-opener for both basketball teams.

Koehn meshed seven of nine shots from the field, including six of eight 3-pointers, and added a pair of free throws for the Vikings, who led 35-21 at halftime and shot 50 percent from the field in the second half to build on their lead.

Augustana's only senior, Ashley Shaunteva, scored 13 points, another redshirt freshman, Logan O'Farrell, added 12 points and junior Nichole Kerkhoff contributed 10 for the Vikings.

Chadron State was led by freshman center
Maka Daysh, who made all five of her field goal shots and was five of six at the free throw line for 15 points. Sophomore
Havannah Newens canned four of six shots from behind the 3-point line while scoring a career-high 14 for the Eagles.

Another CSC sophomore,
Maddie Metzger, contributed six points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

For the game, Augustana was 32 of 75 from the field, including 11 of 36 from 3-point territory, for 42.7 percent. The Eagles were 21 of 53 overall, including five of 13 from behind the arc, while shooting 39.6 percent.

The hosts out-rebounded Chadron State 46 to 35 and had just nine turnovers compared to the Eagles' 19.

The Chadron State women will make their debut in the new Chicoine Events Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Montana State-Billings.
