CSC women’s team to play at home Tuesday night

CHADRON – The Chadron State College women's basketball team will play its first game in the new Chicoine Events Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Montana State-Billings.

The Yellowjackets barely edged the Eagles 59-55 in Billings a year ago, but finished the season with a 25-8 record and reached the Division II Sweet 16.

All-American point guard Bobbi Knudsen has graduated, but the four seniors on this year's team include preseason all-conference choices Kayleen Goggins and Janiel Olson.

Billings split two games last weekend while playing Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams in a tournament in Pueblo. Host Colorado State-Pueblo defeated the Yellowjackets 79-67 in the first round, but Billings topped Western State Colorado 95-57 on Saturday.

Alisha Breen, a 5-10 sophomore, led Billings in the two games with 36 points and 17 rebounds. The Yellowjackets sank 14 3-pointers against Western State.

The Eagles dropped their opening game Friday night to the Augustana Vikings in Sioux Falls 85-59.

CSC coach Tim Connealy said his young team showed promise against Augustana.

Freshman Maka Daysh with 15 points and sophomore Havannah Newens with 14 led the Eagles in scoring.
