Late scoring run trips Eagles

DENVER – A late scoring run propelled the Regis University men's basketball team to a 63-58 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College Friday evening. The Eagles next take on nationally-ranked Metro State University Saturday evening in Denver.

The Eagles led 53-42 with 12 minutes to play but the Rangers, now 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference, went on a 21-5 scoring run to close the game.

The scoring run didn't happen quickly. The Rangers slowly chipped away at the Eagles' 11-point lead and tied things up with1:31 to play.

CSC had a couple chances to gain its lead back but Regis' Dylan King nailed a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left to put up Regis 61-58. The Eagles were unable to answer, and with 11 seconds remaining Regis' Spenser Reeb made two foul shots to seal the win.

Chadron State's Kendrick Holliman led the Eagles with 14 points, while Evan Brooks, who led the team with six rebounds, sank three of four 3-pointers and chipped in 11 points.

The Rangers' Dexter Sienko had a double-double to lead the comeback. Sienko, who shot six of eight from the field, had a game-high 15 points and tore down 14 rebounds. King, Roberto Reyes and Kevin Marshall scored 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

As a team, Chadron State hit 20 of 61 from the field, while Regis sank 20 of 52. Neither team shot well from long range - the two combined to make seven of 26 – but the Rangers made 20 of 27 from the foul line compared to 14 of 20 for the Eagles.
