CHADRON – Thanks to solid shooting and defense, the Chadron State College women's basketball team earned its first win of the season with a 75-62 triumph over Western State Colorado University Saturday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tilt in the Chicoine Center.

Chadron State's
Emma Block led all scorers with 20 points and
Maddie Metzger scored a career-high 14 points while hitting half her shots from the field and going six of seven from the line.

The Eagles put the pressure on Western State early and built a 41-28 halftime lead by shooting 50 percent from the field (15 of 30). CSC pushed the lead to as many as 15 points early in the second half and maintained a double-digit advantage down the stretch.

In the second half, Chadron State only made seven of 16 field goals but got it done at the foul line, hitting 19 of 25 attempts.

Defensively, Chadron State limited Western State to 38 percent from the field, and brought down 12 more defensive rebounds than its opponent.
Ruby Luders, who scored 10 points, had a team-high six rebounds.
Allegria Chisom blocked two shots, as well.

The Mountaineers (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) were led by Jade McIntosh, accounted for 15 points and seven rebounds. Also for Western State, Stephanie Williams chipped in 11 points.

The Eagles play Friday at Colorado School of Mines.
