SILVER CITY, N.M. – Chadron State College women's basketball team fell to Western New Mexico University 65-55 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game
Saturday in Silver City, New Mexico.
The Mustangs (8-7, 6-6 RMAC) jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in the opening 10 minutes and never relinquished their lead. The Eagles got within two points with 43 seconds remaining in the first half after a jumper from
Stephanie Knowles but the Mustangs opened the second half on a
23-10 run, extending their lead to as much as 17.
Western New Mexico distributed the ball well, ending with four athletes in double-digits. Jade Botelho led all scorers with 14 points, three steals and four assists. RaTanya Newsome, Ashley Mitchell and Stephanie Moore each had 12 points.
Newsome and Mitchell each had three steals, and Mitchell dished out a game-high eight assists.
For the Eagles,
Allegria Chisom scored a team-high 10 points, and Knowles and
Emma Block both scored nine.
Chadron State played strong on defense, holding Western New Mexico under 40 percent shooting in the game. Chisom dominated down low with six rebounds and three blocks. Knowles had a team-high five assists and two steals, while Block had six rebounds.
